  • Enjoy Scenic Views of Bear Valley National Wildlife Refuge

The Bear Valley National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife refuge which was established in 1978 which covers about 4200 acres of old-growth pine, cedar, and fir forests interspersed with juniper grasslands. This refuge lands are managed to protect a major winter roosting site for bald eagles. The Klamath Basin supports over five hundred bald eagles each winter. This site is a true heaven for wildlife enthusiast as visitors enjoy watching and photographic wildlife, studying the ecosystem, and deer hunting. Due to the extreme sensitivity of bald eagles to human disturbance, the refuge is closed each year to all public access from November through March. From December through mid-March, birdwatchers watch eagles flying out of the roosting area each morning and back in the late afternoon.
